Emirates will cover medical expenses if passengers get Covid-19
Emirates has come up with a new scheme – coronavirus insurance amidst the pandemic. It has launched a programme where it will pay for the medical expenses of the passengers if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, during their journey. It will cover costs up to 150,000 euros, that is $177,962.25 approx. This offer will be valid for 31 days from the beginning of the passenger’s travel date. One can avail this coverage for travel between now and October 31, 2020.
This offer is free for all the customers regardless of the class of airline they are traveling in. It will also pay the quarantine costs up to two weeks, i.e., 100 euros per day. In the worst possible scenario, Emirates will also cover the cost of their funeral, which will be around 1,500 euros.
Emirates Airline is the first airline to come up with such an offer covering the medical and quarantine costs. Other airlines have also tried to boost the confidence of their customers. Uzbekistan is offering $3000 to its customers if they contract the virus while traveling. Cyprus is providing the cost of lodging and medication to its customers if the virus infects them.
Many countries have now started domestic traveling by following certain norms for safe traveling. Airlines are taking various precautions such as blocking the middle seats and screen tests being conducted on the airport to ensure the total safety of its passengers. But still, people are trying to avoid traveling as far as possible.
The fear of paying for such high medical treatment is not the only reason people are not traveling. The Government of different countries has imposed various border restrictions and quarantine requirements. Also, cancellation of events and conferences all around the world has reduced the need for travel.
