The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will premiere on Walt Disney Co’s Disney+ streaming service on Nov. 17. Set just after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” events, the special extends the collaboration among Lucasfilm and Lego to make fun, tongue-in-cheek illustrated interpretations of Star Warsstories using Lego models and blocks.

The latest project contains animated design-block interpretations of characters from the history of “Star Wars”. It pays tribute to the unique disco-era ancestor, who has become a so-and-so-bad cult hero because fans have discovered it through video sites and knockoff videos.

“We wanted to give a nod and a wink to the original,” says executive producer Josh Rimes, adding a new 45-minute holiday special inspired by “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Planes, trains and cars,” “Christmas Vacation” and the classic Burl Ives musical joy.

The 45-minute episode will be accompanied by Rey as her further Force investigation launches her and BB-8 through the past of the Skywalker Saga. Finn, Poe, Rose, and Chewbacca are planning for the Star Wars Day of Life on Chewie’s home planet Kashyyyk.

A representative for Lucasfilm tells that a few “Star Wars” stars will resume their roles again for the episode, although it’s still unknown if Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, or Kelly Marie Tran are coming back.

The Lego Christmas special, which Rimes teases will have a few “Star Wars” film actors playing their roles, has caught up with the cast following the events of last year’s saga-closing “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” King and droid pal BB-8 set off on a journey to acquire a deeper understanding of the Force, but their visit to the enigmatic Jedi Temple takes them across time and space. Rey communicates with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and other characters in some of the most famous scenes of the series, seeking to get back in time for a Life Day celebration with her mates at Chewbacca’s Wookie home world of Kashyyyk.

The Lego variants of Emperor Palpatine, Vader and Kylo Ren are trying to hang out together:

“It’s really funny what’s going to be happening to those guys,” Rimes says.

But the true essence of the special is Rey ‘s relationship with Luke. And not the old Jedi she knew, but the novice Rebel variant of George Lucas ‘s original 1977 “Star Wars” film.

Yet the 90-minute special was so badly received — Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Diahann Carroll and the band Jefferson Starship all played cameo roles. It was never publicly released again, leaving fans to search for bootleg copies. It was not even eligible for Disney+.

The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special” is directed by Ken Cunningham (“Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar”) and written by David Shayne (“Lego Star Wars: All-Stars”).  The executive producers are James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jason Cosler, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone.
