COVID-19 Vaccines in Trial Phase!
In the first place, COVID-19 Vaccines in Trial Phase! The novel coronavirus has infected more than 20,000,000 people across the globe, and there are nearly 750,000 fatalities till date.
Scientists are leaving no stone unturn to develop a vaccine for Coronavirus as a result of the number of Positive cases rising at a fast pace across the globe. There are 150 vaccine candidates at different stages of the trial around the world.
Russian COVID-19 Vaccine:
“This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered”, said Russian President Vladimir Putin in a video conference. The vaccine is developed jointly by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute and the Russian defence ministry.
Russia named its newly launched vaccine against Coronavirus as “Sputnik V” straightaway after the Soviet satellite. He said that the vaccine has gone through necessary tests. And that one of his daughters has received a dose of the vaccine in and is feeling well.
Final stages of clinical trials to test safety and efficiency continue. Phase 3 trials would start on Wednesday said the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund which finances the vaccine project. According to the reports, 20 countries had pre-ordered more than a billion doses.
Clinical trials of the vaccine began on June 18. All of them developed immunity. The first group was discharged on July 15 and the second group was released on July 20.
WHO On COVID Vaccine:
WHO had informed that all vaccine candidates should go through full stages of testing. The spokesman of WHO says that they are in close contact with Russian health authorities and prequalification of the vaccine will start soon. The prequalification of any vaccine consists of the vigorous review and assessment of all required safety and efficacy data.
However, many pharmaceutical companies and industries have called Russia’s attempt a considerable push to develop a vaccine as soon as possible to be dangerous.
According to WHO, scientists are developing more than 100 possible vaccines across the world, and at least 4 are in final phase 3 human trials.
Also, a vaccine developed by German’s BioNTech and the US pharma giant Pfizer entered phase 3 human trials last month. The companies are planning to test it on 30,000 young volunteers firstly. Three western and two Chinese vaccines are in phase 3 human trials.
Status of Coronavirus Vaccine in India:
Coronavirus cases continue to rise at an alarming rate in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech, said that Indian scientists are continually working to develop a vaccine against Coronavirus.
In India, three Coronavirus vaccines are in the testing phase, and two vaccine candidates are at phase I and II human clinical trials, at present.
Currently, two vaccines are in Phase 2 of clinical trials. Bharath Biotech, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology (NIV) are producing these vaccines. Both the vaccines started trials in early July and entered Phase 2 trials in August. These are one of the quickest vaccines to reach the mid-scale phase of testing. India is ready to mass-produce vaccines as India is the world’s leading vaccine producer.
On the other hand, seven individual companies are working on the development of a vaccine in the country, as per WHO. Blueprint for vaccine trials and distribution is in the process.
