Lana Condor Opens Up On Her Mental Health Struggle

The third instalment of one of the most popular Netflix film series, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, will be released on Feb 12, and the lead actress Lana Condor aka Lara Jean Covey opens up about her mental health and sufferings. In an interview with “SELF”, she mentioned that the success of the first film in this series affected her mental health as she was “just saying yes” for all the opportunities she was getting.

The 23-year-old actress said the first movie drew her great recognition that she ever imagined it would, and it quickly changed her life. The success of the film also coincided with her set time on the SyFy TV series Deadly Class; as a result, Condor said she felt “overloaded”. She got various opportunities that she calls “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” so she could not accept them. Thus she “was just saying yes to everything.” Condor thought of capitalizing on such opportunities and wanted to feel like she is fully embracing everything.

With more opportunities, the workload soared up constantly, and this was when she said she has “never felt more horrible mentally.” She was always “so burned out” that after going home she couldn’t speak, eat, or sleep. She struggled while “going to bed and waking up” because there was so much pressure.

Condor said she also approached her team and told them what she was going through and how she felt. As per her words, her team members were also shocked to learn about her sufferings as she never opened up about it. After sharing her feelings, she realized the power of sharing our feelings- I had this moment where I just was in tears, telling them that I don’t feel OK. And they were all shocked because I wasn’t open about my feelings. No one knew. When I had that conversation with them, it was like a new beginning. Now I know the power of sharing that.” Mentioned in the SELF-interview.

Lana Condor then said how helpful and supportive her parents and boyfriend were in that phase. She said her parents were a “great sounding board” for her. They suggested to her “you need to stop” as she was clearly unhappy to which she replied, “let’s figure out the root of that.”

Talking about her boyfriend, Anthony De La Torre, Condor said he had always been an amazing support system. The couple also moved from LA to Seattle to improve her mental health after which, and the actress said she feels “more human” now. She said- Life is slower where I’m living now, and I have never felt happier because I feel fuller.”

Lana Condor debuted as the mutant Jubilation Lee / Jubilee through Bryan Singer’s superhero film X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. Condor also appeared in Patriots Day, but she became extremely popular after her film “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” with Noah Centineo in 2018. The sequel to this film was released in 2020 “All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You”, and the third part is about to come out this February as “To All the Boys: Always and Forever.” Valentine’s Day will be wonderful with a slew of rom-com movies to choose from. Fans have been waiting a year for the final series to see their favourite on-screen couple. And we can barely wait.
