US Ready To Speed Up Vaccinations. Plans To Buy 200 Million More Doses

As per a leading daily, President Joe Biden announced that there are plans to purchase 100 million additional doses of coronavirus Vaccinations each from Pfizer Inc. and Moderna Inc by his administration. He hopes that this will temporarily suffice to ramp up supplies to states to about 10 million doses a week.

On Tuesday, the President concluded after evaluating the latest vaccine supply and development schedules, that his administration would increase the overall weekly delivery of vaccines to states and tribal territories from 8.6 million doses to a minimum of 10 million doses.

According to a senior administration official, the proposed sales would raise cumulative U.S. orders for the two approved vaccinations by 50 percent, to around 600 million doses. Further, he hopes that the supply by the end of 2021, which should be sufficient to vaccinate 300 million individuals.

As per reports in a leading daily, Biden stated that this would expedite the vaccinations process for more Americans sooner than it was anticipated earlier.

Reports stated that the 46th President of the U.S. has also committed to dispensing 100 million shots within the initial 100 days of his tenure. Further reports are awaited.

Biden’s COVID coordinator, Jeff Zients, informed governors on a call Tuesday afternoon that COVID vaccine allocations for states would increase by around 16% starting next week.

A White House document explaining the move says the Biden administration is committing to maintaining this as the minimum supply level for the next three weeks.

During remarks announcing the new vaccine efforts Tuesday afternoon, the President is also expected to address ways his administration hopes to get those vaccines delivered to states while keeping track of them in a transparent way, as per reports in a leading daily.

He further adds, “I hope you’re all asking me by the end of the summer that ‘you have too much vaccine left over,’ that ‘you have too much equipment left over,'” he said. “That’s not my worry. I hope that becomes a problem rather than we somehow find interruptions in the supply of vaccines,” as reported in Bloomberg.

Biden has already made Covid-19 jabs and controlling the pandemic a top priority ever since he has stepped into the office. However, he has also expressed concern over the graveness of the circumstances. He has further warned that it could take several months in reaching the goal and curbing down the pandemic.

According to recent stats by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were about 22.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines given to Americans as of Tuesday afternoon.

In order to be more successful, the two COVID-19 vaccines that have the authorization tag for the emergency purpose by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration — one by Pfizer/BioNTech and one by Moderna — need two doses provided several weeks apart. According to the CDC, approximately 3.3 million Americans had received two doses of the vaccine as of Tuesday afternoon.

The President said Monday that enough of the vaccine, syringes and other necessary considerations involved in ramping up vaccines are adequate.
